The IAFN newsletter is a great place to publish your first manuscripts. All articles related to forensic nursing will be considered.

Author Guidelines

On the Edge is the official newsletter of the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) and a quarterly E-publication for nursing professionals. It provides a forum for communication between IAFN and its members.

On the Edge is dedicated to presenting up-to-date information on current topics in forensic nursing practice. We are seeking articles on the following:

Manuscript Submission:


  • Follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th   Edition).
  • Provide author name, credentials, professional affiliation and contact information (include phone and fax numbers, mailing and e-mail addresses) Include a brief abstract of content for the table of contents page and bio. If you have a photo or appropriate photos for the article include them.
  • Contact editor regarding length of manuscript (approximately three to six double-spaced pages).
  • When emailing articles to editor identify submission, photo or bio in subject line.


  • Authors are encouraged to include camera-ready tables, figures, and photos (black and white or color). Include names of persons in photos for correct captions.
  • For tables or figures adapted/reprinted from another source, author must obtain written permission from original publisher.
  • When using photos of persons a permission to publish needs to be in place.


  • Follow style used in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th Edition).
  • For in-text citations, use the author-date method: “(Doe, 1997)” or “Doe (1997) states…” Use page numbers only when quoting directly from a source.
  • Reference list: List all references in alphabetical order. Follow these examples:

Jones, M.R., Doe, J.R., & Smith, B.H. (2001). Health policy review. New York: John Wiley & Sons.

Chapter in a book:
Doe, J.R. (2001). Cost-containment and nursing. In J. Brown (Ed.), Economic issues for nurses (pp. 63-78). New York: John Wiley & Sons.

Doe, J.R. (2001). Politics and policy. The Policy Journal, 4(2), 13-18.
